Jesse and Will started their wedding day by sharing their vows with each other underneath the trees at Sellwood Park in Portland, OR. Their closest friends and family later witnessed them get married at the beautiful and intimate Oaks Pioneer Church. I was really excited to finally get to shoot at this amazing Portland wedding venue that has a history that spans more than 150 yrs.

Oaks Pioneer Church History

Oaks Pioneer Church has undergone a lot of changes during its time, including being relocated on three occasions . The building was originally donated by Lot Whitcomb in 1851 and served as St Johns Episcopal Church for the Episcopal Diocese on the outskirts of Milwuakie. The church wasn’t in its original location for long, as it was moved to a more logical location on Main Street in downtown Milwaukie in 1861. Oaks Pioneer Church didn’t experience its second move until nearly 100 yrs later.

By 1960, the church had fallen into disrepair and was scheduled to be demolished. The local communities in Portland, Milwuakie and Sellwood banded together and raised enough funds to save the church and have it moved to its current location at the corner of Southeast Grand Avenue and Spokane. This is also when the church received its current name.
