Wedding at The Marshall House | Vancouver, WA

There’s no better way to kick off my blog than by sharing some of my favorite images from Chip and Sara’s wedding at The Marshall House in Vancouver, WA. The couple gathered their closest friends and family for an intimate wedding and this incredible venue which I was really excited to work in.

When I first talked to Chip, he mentioned that he and Sara were involved in both the historic preservation of their home and their neighborhood, which had achieved the National Historic District designation. You can imagine how excited they were to have found The Marshall House as a wedding venue since it has such a rich history.

Marshall House History

The Marshall House, which is now currently a museum that is open to the public and can be reserved for events, was originally built in 1886. The house was named after General George C. Marshall who lived in the home from 1936-38 while he was stationed at the Vancouver Barracks. Marshall is probably best remembered for being for being the author of “The Marshall Plan”, which aimed to help European economic recovery after World War 2. Marshall was awarded the 1953 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts.

This Queen Anne Victorian Style home has been called the “crown jewel” of Officers Row, which is lined with restored 19th century homes. Twenty two of the preserved Victorian homes are on the National Historic Register, the oldest of which was built in 1850, and is named after Ulysses S. Grant.

The Marshall House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, it was acquired by the city of Vancouver in 1984, and it was listed on the Clark County Heritage Register in 1985.
